Technical Writing

Notes in technical writing from my advisor, Dr. Santamarina:

1. Do not use gerund (verb-ing used as sentence of S/P/O/C).

2. Use SPOC standard. Not like: “In previous study, there is a ….” but “There is a …. in previous study”.
3 Do not use author as a subject or object: “Hakiki (2014) performed a study …” but “A study about X shows that Y (Hakiki, 2014)”.
4. Avoid passive voice.
5. Be concise and avoid flowery words: “It is very big”, “It is pretty heavier than”, “It is absolutely far away”, “It is sort of”, “It is a thing”.
6. Never repeat a word or phrase more than 3 times.
